As a horse person,what does "Expensive" mean to you??
I am curious in general, but what prompted this is the cost of euthanasia. I have read many times that it is expensive. In my mind this meant upwards of a thousand dollars for the procedure. It was a hundred and fifty dollars for the vet bill and burial in my field. To me, this is cheap. This is my example, but I mean it to be for anything to do with horses.Another example: Is a saddle expensive if it costs over a grand, or is it normal and a justified cost of ownership. I'd like your opinion.

WOW good question. Expensive is a ever evolving concept.
18 years ago when I had 2 newborn twin sons EVERYTHING seemed so expensive, no new saddles, no new tack, just more and more diapers , formula and baby clothes. I remember buying leg leather to fix my old saddle and think wow $100 is expensive.
Time went on I adpated and made more money and got to where I could buy more things like I had before the boys So $100 wasnt expensive anymore.
I use a 1966 (year) New Holland Small Square baler to make my hay. I will use it for atleast another 10 years... Why Because I think new Balers are Too Expensive. I paid $300 for a baler that has served me exceptionally well for 12 years,
Why would I pay $19,000 for one that might be a little faster, ALOT prettier and might not miss a bale now and then? Because I just think its too expensive.
I think "to Expensive" comes in 2 varieties.
Finacial situation... which limits us, No matter how much any of us make there is always something just too far out of reach. Lets face I don't think you will find Bill Gates posting on Horses Question.
The next is personal values. My examples of too expensive, Show first too expensive because there just aint enough money. My second shows this if I can use a tool that serves me well, Personally I feel anything that cost signifigantly more and will do about the same job is TO EXPENSIVE.
Some people like shinies and Sparkly new things and would find the new not too expensive. Me I like my tools old and functional, they remind me of me LOL.
Euthinasia is expensive. Emotionally and finacially, I won.t comment more than that. The feel gooders already have it where you can't bury your horse in my state. Making it that much more expensive.
