How do I find out what kind of saddle I have? (not the brand)?
I have a longhorn saddle. I know its an old roping saddle. My uncle said that it's older than me and him combined, so older than about 50 years old. He said probably like 75 years old. It's still in really good condition and it fits me and my horse so don't say I shouldn't use a saddle that old. I want to know what "model" it is. How do I find out? Is it to old to have a model? I don't want to sell it or anything like that, I was just curious of what it was. It says Longhorn on the back but nothing else.

They should be able to help you get information on your saddle. Ehawlz contacted them last year about one of their Simco catalogue models from the 1930's and they were most helpful, even sent her the original advertisement for her model saddle.
Older saddles were generally made with much higher standards and and much better materials. It is completely feasible that a saddle that age or even older is still in serviceable condition. I have several saddles that were handmade back in the 1880's that still have straight trees and are in use. Rode in one Tuesday as a matter of fact.
However, you do not know the saddle's complete history. Accidents happen and you do not know if, in the last 75 years, something has happened that compromised the integrity of this saddle's tree.
Whenever using old/antique tack- no matter how good it looks on the outside even if it is in pristine condition the safe and responsible thing to do is to have it checked over by a reputable saddler.
So instead of getting your dander up over a comment you think someone on here MIGHT make, you may want to have the saddle checked out just to be on the safe side. Even if the saddler just confirms what you already knew, that the saddle in good working condition.
